Kids activities during lockdown

This post is especially for my young little reader Miss Krishna talwar. On demand of her, I decided why not write on this topic which will indirectly help out mommies and daddies to keep their kids busy.😉😁

When the first time government announced a lockdown, kids were unaware of what is going to happen with their routine life.

Earlier kids were happy they did not have to go to school, don't have to give exams etc. But then they realised that "NO", is not good. We are living like a bird in a cage. Can't go anywhere, can't meet the teachers, friends and family members who stay away from us.

Now, when for the second time the lockdown is announced kids are frustrated and indirectly parents too.

To help kids and parents, this post is for every one of us. How can we help, not affect kids mentally?

Activities for kids of all ages, I try these with my 22-month-old baby:

  • Playing with sand:
Magic sand is the indoor playing sand for toddlers. It is non-messy. It does not stick to hands and is easy to clean. Easily available on Amazon and firstcry.
Kids love to play with this sand. Here is my daughter Shivaanshi and my 33-month-old niece Gargi playing and making castles from the sand. Easy and loved activity by every kid. It keeps kids engaged for a long time.

  • Dancing:
Dancing is the most loved by all age groups even adults. Dance with your kids and it will relieve you from work stress as well.

  • Watching Songs:
Playing rhymes for kids. I prefer singing rhymes for kids but sometimes playing on YouTube is fine. It is difficult for working parents to sing rhymes when kids want but they can try on weekends. I enjoy singing for my daughter and she loves it too🥰. This makes our bond even stronger.

  • Artwork:
Kids love drawing, painting and sketching. Let them do it on paper, book or even walls🤫😝 I know 99% of moms won't agree on it but I love when my daughter writes or draw on walls. She enjoys it and I don't want her to stop just because walls are spoilt. I clean it afterwards (nowadays plastic paints are there😁). When I was a kid I did the same and my parents never stopped me😇.

  • Toy time:
Toys mean it's an all-time favourite activity. Give all the toys to them and they will enjoy playing for a long time. If possible please try playing with your kid if they don't have a sibling.
I always take time for my daughter.

  • Helping you in households:
Every time you are not free. So, you can involve kids in your work. Tell them to help you. My 22-month-old old daughter helps me in watering plants, peeling peas, and garlic, picking things and many small things which indirectly improve her motor skills as well.

Other activities only for grown-up kids,

  • you can give them online quizzes( I play with my niece Swara who is 12 years old).

  • Try various experiments like lemon juice and detergent. (any of a particular age group). You can check online for various experimental boxes.

  • Give them art or paintwork. My niece Swara now tries different sketching and paintings by watching YouTube videos.

  • Swara has been trying a new activity of learning photography. Clicks various pictures of sunsets from our terrace. Plants, leaves, birds etc and still learning to be unique.

All these pictures are clicked by her with her creative mind

She does all this after completing her school work and on weekends. I encourage her to do it as being at home and doing nothing or only studying can harm the young mind.

Let your kids explore themselves in their lockdown period. Don't force them to do things just because other kids are doing them. Encourage them to do and if they love it they will do it. As I always say don't compare them, every child is unique. Not everyone can become a doctor or engineer. Support your kid in what they are passionate about.

In this pandemic situation, teach them to be strong, and fierce and support each other. Be brave enough to handle every situation. Don't depend on luxuries, someday we need to live without them also and so that should not affect our living. Take care of yourself to protect your family.

Some notes for kids too:

I know kids are very smart but this time I have one note for you too.

Your parents are working from home right now, the workload is doubled. Please help them with chores like setting the table, picking up things and any small thing you can do.

Keep your toys when done playing.

This will make them happy and stress-free too.

Please stay home and stay safe.

Please wear a mask and maintain social distance.

Take the vaccine when your turn comes. Stop being of a particular party and be a brave citizen of your country.
